Cognitive difficulties are a common and debilitating feature of depression; however, little is known about why they occur. We seek to better understand the role that inflammation, particularly low-grade inflammation (i.e., when your body's immune system is chronically activated at a low level), plays in these common cognitive difficulties. As such, we investigate how reducing inflammation with an anti-inflammatory medication - infliximab - can lead to improvement in cognitive complaints in depressed individuals who experience high levels of inflammation. The study takes two weeks to complete and will involve in-person study visits and remote assessment using questionnaires, cognitive tests, clinical and medical assessments, blood draws, and an intravenous infusion.
